M C Road in Kerala is Not That Much Worse

In one of my earlier post I had mentioned that travellling along the M C Road in Kerala was adventurous, but this post is written to highlight some of the better side of the MC road. In my recent Travel from Kottayam to Angamaly, I came to click some snaps of the better side of the MC road, which clearly says that all portion of the MC road is not that much bad. Only a certain areas seems to be pathetic and the rest seems to be much better, especially the route from Muvattupuzha till Angamaly.

The irony is that this journey was at the peak of the monsoon season in Kerala, where almost all the roads become water pools. But these snaps of the MC road clearly states that if the roads are constructed in the proper way they can withstand any type of climatic changes. But our poor politicians, Government officials and the contractors are not willing to make all the roads  of  Kerala in a similar quality as they might not be able to grab and loot the public money effectively.

Frequent Rains in the Evening Making Cochin a Hell

The period between September and Mid November always witnesses heavy evening rains in all parts of Kerala. The heavy rains are usually accompanied by terrible thunder which makes this period a dangerous one. A lot of people had to pay their life due to this heavy thunder showers. So it is better to stay safe and take necessary precautions when this evening thunder shower happen.

The city of Cochin is one of the most unplanned cities in India and the heavy evening rains make this city a real hell. Almost all the the roads would be flooded instantly disrupting the smooth traffic flow. The water logging even enters the residential areas and people usually have  a dreaded experience. The conditions of the major roads in Cochin is really pathetic, as they are blessed with unexpected and huge poth holes. When it rains heavily the poth holes gets filled and as a result accidents are regular.

The heavy evening rains have started this week and I was in the city when it happened. As mentioned above the roads in Cochin got flooded instantly and it left me stranded and I could not go anywhere. I had to wait till the water receded and it cost me almost around 3-4 hours. First I planned to get shelter under a waiting shed build by Cochin corporation, but it was not sufficient to save me from drenching. As a result I ran to a near by coffee shop and had to wait there till the rain slowed. I also met with some unwanted expense as I had to eat and drink from the hotel as I needed some shelter over there.

So anybody who loves to visit Cochin city, please make sure that you are home before the evening rain starts, other wise you would be losing your health and valuable time. :)

A Travel Through the MC Road in Kerala is Really Adventurous

The MC road or the Main Central Road is one of the oldest routes in Kerala which extends from from Angamaly to Thiruvananthapuram. The road connects some of the major cities in Kerala such as Angamaly, Perumbavoor, Muvattupuzha, Kottayam, Thiruvalla, Chengannur, Pandalam, Adoor, Kottarakkara,  Kilimanoor adn Thiruvananthapuram. This road passes through the Travancore region of Kerala and is designated as SH1 by Kerala PWD (Public Works Department).

The road witnesses a huge amount of traffic every day and is expected to maintain high quality. But since the monsoon arrived in Kerala, all the major roads got deteriorated with huge gutters, making the life of travelers more difficult. Same was the case with the so called MC road as most of the major regions suffered from this gutter mania. Before the monsoon, traveling along the MC road was like an icing on the cake, but things have turned upside down after the rainy season started in Kerala.

Recently I had the opportunity to travel from Thiruvalla to Angamaly along the MC road and I expected a smooth ride. But I was shocked to find out about the bad state of the MC road. It really felt like traveling on a camel back due to the presence of regular gutters and continuous shaking of my car. Usually it won't take you more than 3 hours to cover the distance, but this time it took around more than 4 hours. By the time I reached Angamaly, I was really tired and developed severe back ache.

I am still wondering what the authorities are doing or planning to do in getting these gutters fixed. This is one of the major road route in Kerala and still it is filled with gutter and poor infrastructure, which is causing a large number of accidents every day.

Another instance of poor road infrastructure is the bumps that are constructed in the roads which is meant to slow down the speeding cars. Actually such type of bumps should be colored differently in white paints so that once can identify these bumps while driving at a good speed on these roads. They can also put some type of reflectors on the bump to make it visible for the drivers. But nothing is in place and as a result most of the drivers break into these bump unexpectedly resulting in unwanted anxiety and worries.

Hope that Kerala government would atleast take care in these things so that we can make our journey much more enjoyable and accident free.
